During an especially severe December snow storm, Herbert S. Stine, the volunteer store manager, chose not to close the store at 5:00 P.M. in order that his homeless customers might have a sanctuary from the snow and wind. From that night until the following spring, The Friendship House remained open twenty-four hours a day, offering night time shelter to as many as twenty homeless folks and beginning a new ministry of daytime assistance and advocacy. On April 1, 1987 the city fire marshal ordered The Friendship House to close and not reopen until it could be fully licensed as a shelter. At the same time church volunteers from Immanuel Church, Highlands and First and Central Presbyterian Church convinced their church communities to co-sponsor this homeless ministry. In coalition with Meeting Ground, these two churches and several other committed individuals formally incorporated as Friendship House, Inc. You can set your search results to show the chapter and verse as well as other writings and study guides on the subject you enter. Very useful if you are looking for other references as well as the Bible for your research. However, searches are specific to the words you type in. For instance if your enter "baptism", you will only see Bible references that include that specific word and not "baptize", baptizing", etc. So you may have to search more than one time for the same subject. But this is one of the most complete guides I have come across to date. - From the people at The Gospel Communications Network this is another Bible reference page. Less extensive as the Bible Study Tools, but may be faster and easier for those who just need the chapter and verse, without any other notes or study guides. Easy to use. Includes eight different versions of the Bible in 9 different languages.
