Adult Education at Limestone
Life Long Learning Opportunities

Limestone Presbyterian Church offers educational courses on Sunday mornings and during the week.
Learning is vital in our Journey of Faith. It must become a lifetime habit.
Childcare will be provided on Sunday morning.

Starting on October 14th:

Dr. Ken Bailey Bible Study on Women in the New Testament
A part of the modern Church has opened its doors to women to participate in all levels of the leadership of the Church. Another part has declined to do so (Roman Catholics and Southern Baptists), or does so with deep uneasiness. Each quotes the New Testament. In this set of studies, Dr. Bailey deals with all of the important texts and does not opt for one set while neglecting the other. He finds a deep unity in the New Testament view of women that is often overlooked. Join us for this six week series on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am, in the Upper Room with Bob Swinson.

October 14 & 21 Understanding Christian Fundamentalism with Fred Kirschman
Christian fundamentalism is a Christian theology. While fundamentalists embrace a set of specific doctrines, many nonfundamentalist Christians also share some of these beliefs. Fundamentalists believe themselves to be returning to past conventional standards, called orthodoxy. However, many researchers believe that fundamentalism began as a reaction against modernization of the rapidly changing Western culture of the nineteenth century, including large technical advances and societal changes. All of this led to a crisis in faith for some, out of which fundamentalism arose as an attempt to round the Christian faith. The term fundamentalism emerged when a number of pamphlets were published in the 1910s that declared five fundamentals as foundational beliefs of Christians. Join us on Sunday mornings in the church library at 10:00 a.m. for this introduction to an important religious movement.

Monday Morning Lectionary
Each Monday morning at 11 am in the Library, the pastor preaching the following Sunday meets with a group of adults to read the lectionary texts for the week and have a discussion about them. Come join the group!

Tuesday Evening Bible Study
This Bible Study will resume Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Library. The group is working its way through the Bible, verse by verse. This class is also using the Gospel of John movie, watching a chapter at a time. Here is what Dr. Ben Witherington, Professor of New Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary, wrote about this movie in Christianity Today magazine, stating, "It all adds up to what I think is the best portrayal of Jesus ever offered in a feature length film." Join us for a great study with a great movie on the greatest book! The study begins again with John, Chapter 7. Wes Wardell is the Bible study leader. The dates for the coming year are:
  • October 9 and 23
  • November 13 and 27;
  • December 11
  • January 8 and 22;
  • February 12 and 26
  • March 11 and 25;
  • April 8 and 22
  • May 13 and 27;
  • June 10
BYOB (Bring your own Bible)
All are Welcome!

Upcoming Wednesdays(October 21 & 28): Meet John Calvin
John Calvin (1509-1564) was a major Protestant reformer whose influence continues to the present day. He was a leader of what became known as the Reformed/Presbyterian branch of the Protestant Reformation. Calvin was deeply involved in the life of Geneva, where he preached and lectured and was concerned with many facets of everyday life. His theological writings put him in the front ranks of Protestant leaders, and his various types of writings - biblical commentaries, sermons, and theological and polemical works were viewed as key resources for those who adopted his views. Later followers (Calvinists) developed his thought into even more systematic expressions. But Calvin's theological genius is still looked to in the present time as a clear articulation of his understanding of the Christian gospel. In the Presbyterian tradition, Calvin's work is highly regarded as formative for understanding Christian faith and life.

Limestone Presbyterian Men and Presbyterian Women also offer educational opportunities.

Our church library has many new books - check them out for great Fall reading that will nurture your spirit and mind!
